Deutschland-Termine fallen aus!
Achtung: Ray Lamontagne kommt im M�rz NICHT nach Deutschland! Noch ist nichts Genaueres bekannt, aber fest steht, dass die vier Termine ausfallen. Ob und auf wann sie verschoben werden, l�sst sich im Moment noch nicht sagen, aber sobald Einzelheiten bekannt sind, werden wir sie hier ver�ffentlichen. The Guy works part-time helping his father, who runs a small, vacuum cleaner repair business, but dreams of having his songs recorded and landing a record deal. His girlfriend has recently left him and gone to London, and he is still coming to grips with that loss and is emotionally vulnerable.

One day while busking on Dublin's Grafton Street, he meets the Girl, an East European immigrant who has moved to Dublin to start a new life for herself and currently works as a house cleaner in an upper-class residence. She is struggling financially, and cannot afford the piano she yearns for, while also being in the process of making crucial decisions about her personal life.
In a Dublin that has grown increasingly affluent and materialistic during Ireland's unprecedented economic boom, they are both outsiders, struggling with their art and their hearts. Through music, they find a common bond that brings them effortlessly together.

As the Guy and the Girl get to know each other over the course of an intense few days, their relationship blossoms as they share their music, put together a band to rehearse songs and record some demos, all of which results in them both bringing some much-needed impetus to their artistic and personal lives.

Written and directed by John Carney Once is produced by Martina Niland and executive produced by David Collins with Music by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. The director of photography is Tim Fleming, and the production designer is Tamara Conboy. Costume design is by Tiziana Corvisieri with casting by Maureen Hughes. JOHN CARNEY According to himself, John Carney was mad about film making from a very young age. At 17 he got a bit misdirected from this dream and became the bass player of the Frames. While playing in the band, he shot numerous rock videos and made good friends for the rest of his life. He left the band in �93 with a desire to pursue a career in the movie business. He made his debut feature �November Afternoon� with Tom Hall, which premiered at the Cork Film Festival in 1996. Since then he has become a well-known director in Ireland with numerous projects under his belt, like �Just in Time�, the �Park� and the �Bachelors Walk Series�. Last year he shot �Once� in Dublin with his long-time friend Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, from a 100 grand, in two weeks time. This year the movie has won the World Dramatic Cinema Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and is proving to be a great success among the audience and the critics. What else is really needed to say�?

GLEN HANSARD & MARKETA IRGLOVA After being singer-songwriter for the Frames for almost two decades, a few years ago Glen Hansard decided to leave Ireland and find a new inspiration in the Czech Republic. There he met the classically trained, very talented multi-instrumentalist Marketa Irglova and they started to play together in small venues across the country. After Jan Hrebejk, a Czech director asked them to contribute with a few songs to his film �Beauty in Trouble�, they ended up leaving the studio with a whole album. The Swell Season was released last April and keeps going strong ever since. Even though Hansard was busy with the completion of the new Frames album, The Cost, he found time to bring the Swell Season live to audiences in Europe and the U.S. It is an extraordinary album. It�s natural simplicity and the two artists' sheer talent and sincere passion for music, which comes across the songs, create an ethereal experience and capture the listeners straight away. Even though initially they were only to write the songs for �Once�, Carney decided to go with the two musicians in the main roles instead of professional actors. This is how Hansard became the broken-hearted busker on the streets of Dublin. Busking.. Something he did before in the early days to get the Frames started and the money to record the first demo.Something he still does for his own enjoyment. And this is how Marketa turned to be the Czech immigrant with a shadow in her past and a talent to share with him. An encounter and its consequences told in songs. A difference made by inspirations.

GLEN HANSARD (THE FRAMES) und MARKETA IRGLOVA auf dem EMDEN FILMFEST

Der The Frames S�nger GLEN HANSARD und die tschechische Musikerin  MARKETA IRGLOVA werden am Wochenende auf dem Emden Filmfest vertreten sein, um den bereits preisgekr�nten Musical-Film ONCE von John Carney vorzustellen.

�Once� ist ein �berraschend leichter, charmanter Film, ein modernes Musical, das als Videoalbum daherkommt und genau deshalb die Zuschauer f�r sich gewinnt. Glen Hansard, S�nger der auch bei uns immer bekannter werden den irischen Band �The Frames�, spielt und musiziert so gut und authentisch, dass man keine andere Wahl hat, als diesen Kerl und seine Musik zu m�gen. Hansard und die tschechische Musikerin Marketa Irglova bilden ein Paar jenseits aller Musicalkonventionen und begeistern gemeinsam mit Charme und K�nnen ihre Zuschauer und -h�rer. Kein Wunder, dass �Once� beim Filmfestival in Sundance den Publikumspreis gewann.

Falls es mir tats�chlich gelingen sollte, einen sachsenkritikfreien Bericht zu schreiben, liegt das daran, dass sie sich diesmal wirklich richtig gut benommen haben (f�r ihre Verh�ltnisse). Ok, wenn man mal davon absieht, dass ich vor dem Konzert mein Essen runterschlingen und mein K�stritzer hinterkippen musste, nur weil bei jemandem aus einem 5-Minuten_Nickerchen mal wieder ein mehr als einst�ndiges Schl�fchen wurde. Nun ja, so bleibt mehr f�r das arme Burlie, dem am Tag zuvor schon ohne zu z�gern das letzte Bier weggetrunken worden war; nat�rlich nur um ihn vor sich selbst und vor einem Ende an der Stehbiebe (was man doch f�r W�rter lernt) zu sch�tzen. Jedenfalls kamen wir so noch rechtzeitig genug, um gute Pl�tze in der zweiten und dritten Reihe des zu unserer �berraschung bestuhlten Schlachthofs zu bekommen (andererorts zu einer anderen Zeit versprach man Bestuhlung und musste stehen, also im Vergleich dazu wirklich toll diese Organisation in Sachsen). Soviel zu den Rahmenbedingungen. Das Konzert selbst ging dann auch recht p�nktlich und ohne vorherige Qu�lerei durch eine Vorband los. Irgendwie f�llt es mir etwas schwer, die Ereignisse im Nachhinein bestimmten Songs zuzuordnen, also schreib ich einfach mal drauf los, was mir so einf�llt.
Zun�chst zum Publikum. Wirklich sehr diszipliniert und respektvoll. Keine Jawolllll oder Bravooooooo-Rufe, sondern aufmerksames, ger�uschfreies Lauschen, Beobachten und Genie�en. Bis auf zwei Ausnahmen (nat�rlich keine Sachsen), die von Anfang an durch ihre T�nze auffielen. Erstaunlich wie man so v�llig ohne Rhythmusgef�hl selbst zu Accidental Babies abtanzen kann als ob gerade Bloc Party auf der B�hne st�nden. Und nicht zu vergessen das Gehopse bei den schnelleren Songs � Schlussspr�nge mit B-Note 5,4. Bis auf etwas Fu�gymnastik und ein durch eine Attacke eines Konzertbesuchers ausgel�stes kr�ftiges Durchsch�tteln konnte meine Bewegungsfreude da nicht mithalten.
Meine Bef�rchtung, dass sich das Ausscheiden von Lisa Hannigan bemerkbar machen w�rde, hat sich zum Gl�ck nicht best�tigt. Ich vermisste sie eigentlich keine Minute � selbst nicht bei durch ihre Stimme gepr�gten Titeln wie Blowers Daughter. Damien gelang es problemlos ihr Fehlen zu kompensieren. Er �berzeugte nicht nur stimmlich, sondern auch als Entertainer, der durch Witz, Charme und nette kleine Geschichtchen das Publikum des �fteren zum Lachen bringen konnte. Trotz Bestuhlung baute er nicht nur auf seine ruhigen Songs, sondern lie� es auch ab und an ganz ordentlich krachen, so bei Me, My Yoke & I und Woman Like A Man. Auch diesmal orientierte er sich nicht nur an den Albumversionen � I Remember wurde mal eben auf 15 Minuten ausgedehnt, Songs gingen nach minutenlangen Intros bzw. Outros oft nahtlos ineinander �ber (beispielsweise Coconut Skins in Woman Like A Man) und Rootless Tree kam in einer ruhigen Pianoversion daher. Mit Older Chests, Delicate, Accidental Babies und Blowers Daughter wurden mir auch bis auf einen Titel alle Setlistw�nsche erf�llt. Der besondere G�nsehautmoment war wohl Accidental Babies � bei Totenstille im Publikum ging einem dort jeder Ton durch den K�rper. F�r den gr��ten Unterhaltungswert sorgte Cheers Darlin, bei dem ein Kellner Damien immer wieder sein geleertes Glas auff�llen durfte und er rauchend und am B�hnenrand stehend den Part in seinem eigenem Song �bernahm. Damit ging der Abend dann auch leider schon wieder zu Ende. Ich finde, wir (und das schlie�t alle Sachsen im Publikum mit ein) h�tten wirklich noch einen weiteren Song verdient gehabt. Immerhin bleibt mal wieder die Vorfreude � und zwar die, auf das wenigen Minuten fertige Bootleg.

Besonders sicherlich das Nickerchen .
