This is a Pageant show that is not in wide circulation. The tape I converted was a copy I received from the taper, David Thomas. The sound quality is not quite as good as the shows that hatnham has been posting recently. Listen to the sample posted in the comments section. As hatnham has explained, Dave taped 13 shows on this tour. I got him his tickets for this show, although we never actually met face to face.

This was the last of four shows I saw on this tour, and it turned out to be the last time I saw R.E.M. I feel that Pageant was their last great album, and the shows started becoming very predictable on this tour. Just my opinion, of course. The only other detail I remember from this night is that the show was in the basketball arena, and the floor was open general admission, with the typical pushing. After dealing with that at every other show, we decided to sit in the seats this time.

This is the last of my low generation R.E.M. tapes. Fortunately, hatnham appears to have a bunch to share!

A torrent of an FM recording of songs from this show was posted yesterday. This boot features 5 tracks that were not part of that torrent: Moral Kiosk, Camera, Pilgrimage, Windout, and Skank. It is also missing one track that was part that torrent: Driver 8, which was officially released as the B-side of a single and couldn't be included here even if it was on the boot. Catapult, which is also missing from this boot was also officially released. The third missing track is Sitting Still, which apparently was never officially released. From what I've read, this concert was recorded for possible release as a live album.

The sound quality on the torrent of the FM recording is superior to this boot's sound, though the FM recording sounds to me like it runs fast. These are the same SHN files that were originally seeded by R. Herron on STG in September 2003. Thanks to him. I'm not sure if the source of this is FM or SBD - the audience noise sounds pumped up, like you hear on FM broadcasts of live shows. If someone has an upgrade to this, please upload it and we'll take this one down.

CAVEAT EMPTOR:
This recording has been heavily processed using soundforge to restore
left channel volume, boost volume levels and where possible edit song
transitions smoothly. It has been retracked to conform with the recently
researched setlist details that place the date of this show as May 30th
1980. Track 8 has unfortunate sound erosion between 0:19 and 0:36
probably due to deterioration on the master tape. Track 14 cuts off
after 2:56. Other fade outs and fade ins are noticeable but as this
tape source lay unnoticed in a box for the best part of 25 years it is
remarkable how good the sound quality is.

Tracks 15-22 were previously released as part of REM-08, however this
source is far better quality and as it was recorded 6 days after the
40 Watt show it's the perfect companion.

From www.remtimeline.com: "About the venue itself, from an interview by David Fricke with Peter Buck on 15 November 2023 taken from The Rolling Stone Files book (pg. 114): "There was a place in Greensboro, North Carolina, called Friday's. It was a pizza parlor, and the guy had bands play. It was an L-shaped room; you could see through the bar to the ovens, with the guy with the long stick with pizzas on it, and see us, too. He'd charge a dollar, we'd get 150 people in there, and we'd get the door. People would let us sleep on the floor. There were clubs like that in every city."

Taken from the CD bootleg "T.G.I.F," which lists the date as March 31, 1981, but is in fact November 6, 1981.

"Ha (We Get Paid For It)" is the arbitrary title of this song. It's unknown what the true intended title was, as it was quickly dropped from the set and wasn't recorded in the studio.

This was the first day of their first leg final of around the sun tour.
This night was filmed from the balkony between 3!! security people. The night before 50ct plaid at the Point at they expected the worst.
For that reason the camera fades away sometimes.
