This is a solo Robyn Hitchcock show with accompaniment from Deni Bonet on a few tracks.

This was recorded at the (old) 9:30 Club in DC; I'm 95% sure it was on 1995.03.28, but I'm relying on an old ticket stub for the date as I didn't label the tape at the time. It was the first of a two-night stand in DC. A quick search online didn't turn up anything to make me think the date is wrong (I was at a similar show in late December that year, but I certainly remember not taping that gig, so I think I'm correct). However, let me know if you can prove otherwise.

I trimmed a little bit of the between song guitar tuning to fit the gig on one CD (don't be confused by the "d01" label in the track titles; there is no disk 2). However, all the songs and RobynStories are in tact.

The Good: This is a decent audience recording. Minus a few silly comments here and there, the crowd is very respectful and quiet during the songs (I guess everyone was shipped in from a different city...). Personal opinion, I think this is a great set list.

The Bad: At the very end of the gig I realized I was standing underneath a big fan for the entire show. While it would explain why I was comfortably cool throughout the event, it created a low hum throughout the recording. It is most noticeable during the speaking moments, and was pretty much why I tossed the unlabeled tape in a box for 11+ years. Nonetheless, it isn't as distracting as the description might sound (I made a few attempts at gating the noise but came up with nothing I was happy with...I find as long as it isn't played on a system/with headphones that over-hype the bass, it is okay). There is also a slight amount of phasing during The Yip! Song/Not Me.

The linage: Maxell XLII90 cassette from a Panasonic portable tape recorder w/ external mic master, Soundforge, Flac l8.

This show is a soundboard cassette courtesy of former Posies drummer Mike Musburger's
collection. I think his cassette was a dub of the master. Anyhow, if you pulled down my
last torrent of the first full band recordings of The Posies you will hear a nice
progression. The band is much tighter, although the sheer goofiness of the band hadn't
been ironed out quite yet. There is some hiss and it's a small club board recording so we
got lots of drums and vocals. Still certainly worth hearing.

Another soundboard cassette, though much cleaner. This was from Mike Musburger's master cassette. The Moore is a beautiful old opera house. The acoustics are much better so the PA doesn't have to work so hard, hence a much better recording. This was a rather
abbreviated set, made even moreso by this torrent which is missing the final song from their six-song set, "I May Hate You Sometimes." That recording can be found on the At Least At Last boxed set released in 2000.

Gunther that has done so much around here with his fantastic artwork job (hey G.
i need one for this !) and to Coyote for all the great masters he has shared on Dime.
I remember this show for 2 things : a fantastic performance for a magical night,
and some giant mosquitos flying around in a really hot Milano summer evening !!!
