Nicht jedem d�rfte gel�ufig sein, dass die Streicher-Sektion von Sigur R�s unter dem Namen Amiina auch eigene Songs ver�ffentlicht. Nach einer EP und einer Single erscheint nun Mitte Juni das Deb�talbum "Kurr".

Als Streichquartett von Sigur R�s haben die vier Damen von Amiina schon in Hallen gespielt, die Platz f�r mehrere tausend Leute bieten. Seit 2004 agiert der an Cello und Violine klassisch ausgebildete Vierer aber auch selbstst�ndig und ver�ffentlicht eigene Musik. Neben Streichinstrumenten bauen Amiina auf ihrem Deb�talbum "Kurr" vom Glockenspiel �ber Keyboards bis hin zu Weingl�sern weitere Klangerzeuger in ihren melancholischen, au�erhalb Raum und Zeit stehenden Klangkosmos ein, der in seiner m�rchenhaften Entr�cktheit nicht selten an die gro�en Br�der erinnert.

Nachdem das Deb�talbum "Kurr" seit dem 21. M�rz schon bei Live-Konzerten und �ber den Online-Shop der Band erh�ltlich ist, hat das Streichquartett nun einen Vertrag beim britischen Label Ever Records unterzeichnet, der eine europaweite Verf�gbarkeit des Albums ab dem 18. Juni garantieren soll. Die Trackliste zu "Kurr" liest sich wie folgt:

Iron & Wine Stretches Out On 'Shepherd's Dog'

Iron & Wine offers up its most eclectic and adventurous music to date on "The Shepherd's Dog," due Sept. 25 via Sub Pop. First single "Boy With a Coin," which is marked by hand claps and Sam Beam's multi-tracked vocals, will precede the album on July 10, backed by the non-album cuts "Carried Home" and "Kingdom of the Animals."

Beam told Billboard.com earlier this year he was aiming to make a "more playful" record this time around, and that spirit is felt on tracks like the jaunty, piano-infused opener "Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car," the summer-friendly "Lovesong of the Buzzard" and the drumless West African highlife of "House by the Sea."

The artist's lyrics also take a turn for the surreal on the sitar-inflected "White Tooth Man," which references postmen crying while opening the mail, people being trampled in a Christmas parade and others who get sick after eating a meal in a strip club.

Members of Calexico guest on "Wolves (Song of the Shepherd's Dog)," which would have been right at home on the two groups' collaborative EP, "In the Reins." Elsewhere, "The Devil Never Sleeps" incorporates saloon piano and a down-home country feel, while Beam's electric guitar is the primary component of "Carousel."

With the exception of "Carousel," every song had its basis in a backlog of material that Beam has been gradually chipping away at for years. "It's still pretty sizable," he said. "I'm already working on the next one. A lot of them, you think you're on the right track, but when it comes time to record, they don't seem different enough."

Iron & Wine's lone show at present is a July 14 set at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.

Counting Crows Push New Album To January

Originally expected Nov. 6, Counting Crows' new album, "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings," has been pushed back to January. "Between all the touring and the traveling and the mixing and mastering of the new album and putting the together the package ... we just let some little things fall through the cracks," frontman Adam Duritz writes on the band's Web site.

"There are videos and singles and so many things to decide on and finish and it's just not the time in our career to be rushing important decisions," he continues. "Actually, in my opinion, it's never the right time to rush important decisions. We really try to make records that last forever. I don't see the point in putting all the work in to do that and then not having the right cover or picking the wrong single or making the wrong video."

"Saturday Nights" (Geffen) will be the Crows' first studio album since 2002's "Hard Candy." The "Saturday" portion of the disc features more electric material, while the "Sunday" segment is more acoustic-based.

"This album is really starkly divided, not just musically but thematically," Duritz told Billboard in August. "The first half is pretty dark stuff and 'Sunday Mornings' is not a side about redemption either. 'Sunday Mornings' is about sorrow and grief."

He added, "Whether or not everyone else will like it or not, I don't know. It's not a normal Counting Crows record. It may turn some people off."
