Van Halen, R.E.M. on upcoming ballot for Hall of Fame
Go ahead and jump -- for joy! -- Van Halen fans. The hard-rocking band has been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, along with eight other acts.
This is the first nomination for Van Halen, although the group has been eligible for at least the past three years.
R.E.M. and the Ronettes are the other first-time nominees on the latest Rock Hall ballot, which also has Chic, the Dave Clark Five, Grandmaster Flash, Patti Smith, the Stooges and Joe Tex in the running again for enshrinement, according to a source familiar with the nomination proceedings.
....
R.E.M., the jingle-jangle alt-rock pride of Athens, Ga., is fronted by vocalist Michael Stipe. After winning over the college-radio crowd in the early 1980s, the band found mainstream success to the tune of "Losing My Religion" and other Top 40 singles.
.....
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, based in New York, oversees the induction process. Artists are eligible 25 years after the release of their first recording.
The foundation recently downsized its nominating committee, made up of music industry insiders and chaired by Bruce Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau.
"We've made the committee smaller to move things along quicker," said Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the foundation.
Ballots are set to be mailed in the next few days to an international pool of voters, including record company executives and previous inductees.
Plans for the 2007 induction ceremony have not been announced.
Na dann lat uns mal hoffen, dass sie auch aufgenommen werden.

Billboard.com reports that R.E.M, Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the Ronettes, and Van Halen will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12 at New York's Waldorf-Astoria. The five to be inducted were selected from a group of nine nominees. To be eligible for induction, this year's class had to release their first single no later than 1981. R.E.M. released "Radio Free Europe" b/w "Sitting Still" on Hib-Tone Records in July 1981.
Congratulations go out to Peter, Bill, Mike, Michael, and Bertis from everyone here at remhq.com!

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY TO BE BROADCAST
2-Mar-2007
Written by:
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation today announces its broadcast partners for the March 12th induction ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation president and C.E.O., Joel Peresman commented, We are so happy to be working with our great friends at VH1 again this year, and welcoming our new partners, AOL, VH1 Classic, and MHD, MTV Networks new high-definition music channel. For the first time, the induction ceremony will air live on VH1 Classic, and be simultaneously streamed without commercial interruption on AOL at http://spinner.aol.com/rockhall. We think that being able to broadcast the induction event live will make for great viewing and our hope is that a live broadcast will make the fans feel like they get to share the moment with us, in a way that they never have been able to before.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be broadcast live from the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on AOL, VH1 Classic and MHD on March 12, 2007. AOL will feature the induction on demand commencing on March 13th. The full ceremony will air again on VH1 Classic and MHD on Friday, March 16th. An edited version will air in rotation on VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD beginning on Saturday, March 17th .
It is a true honor for AOL to be able to stream the induction ceremony live for fans around the world, said Mike Rich, Vice President of AOL Music, Movies, and Television. For years AOL has been a leader in providing music fans a rich online source of videos, original performances, live concerts and more. Now we can let consumers witness the thrill of this historic event, empowering them with interactive features that allow them to upload video commentary, vote and interact with other fans.
It will also be shown on regular VH1, it will probably be edited. It will air at the following times.
