Wilco reveal details of double album
And frontman Jeff Tweedy is going to play a one-off UK show

US alt-country legends Wilco are to release a two-disc live CD later this year � and frontman Jeff Tweedy has announced details of a London show.

'Kicking Television - Live in Chicago' is out on on October 31. The album was recorded at the Vic Theatre in the band's hometown over four nights in May.

Included are songs spanning most of the Wilco back catalogue, plus a cover of Charles Wright's 'Comment' , which the band first performed live in December 2004.

Jeff Tweedy solo unterwegs � mit Wilco

Es scheint so, als ob Wilco-Frontmann speziell durch das neue Live-Album seiner Band "Kicking Televisions - Live In Chicago" Lunte gerochen hat. Kaum steht die CD in den L�den, ist Tweedy schon wieder unterwegs. Dieses Mal allerdings wandelt er auf Solopfaden. Zumindest auf dem Papier. Vergangenen Freitag fiel in Madison, Wisconsin der Startschuss f�r seiner Solo-Tour. Geboten wird, nun ja, gr��tenteils Wilco-Material. "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" in etwa oder "I'm The Man Who Loves You". Letzteres ging beim Tourauftakt �brigens mit seinem Spr��ling am Schlagzeug �ber die B�hne. Ansonsten wurde noch ein wenig in der Kiste von Loose Fur gew�hlt, Tweedys Side-Band mit der er in K�rze auch ein weiteres Album ver�ffentlicht. Da wiederum spielt neben Ex-Sonic Youth Jim O'Rourke auch Wilco-Drummer Glenn Kotche und der, so schlie�t sich der Kreis, trommelte im Zugabenteil von Tweedys Solo-Performance auch ein bisschen.

"By the nature of playing by yourself, my repertoire gets a lot bigger than what it is with the band, that's for sure," erkl�rt Tweedy gegen�ber Billboard.com. "The band is capable of playing everything in the catalog, but at any given point you can't just pull something out and expect everybody to know it." Direkt nach der am 22.11. in London endenden Tour will Tweedy dann wieder mit Wilco ins Studio, um am Nachfolger des "A Ghost Is Born"-Albums zu werkeln. Bislang hat die Band 13 Nummern im Visier, ein Release im n�chsten Jahr wird zumindest angestrebt. Unterwegs kann Tweedy das dann ja noch mal mit seinen Bandkollegen bequatschen: Das Vorprogramm f�r einige Solo-Shows bestreiten, man ahnt es schon, Glenn Kotche und Wilco-Gitarrist Nels Cline. Beide ebenfalls solo. Die Summe der einzelnen Teile durch drei.

Wilco Testing Out New Tunes On Tour

Wilco has been road-testing material intended for its next Nonesuch album and will return to the studio next month for more recording, drummer Glenn Kotche tells Billboard.com. The group has no firm timetable for the release of the as-yet-untitled set, which will be the follow-up to 2004's "A Ghost Is Born."

"We already have a dozen-and-a-half songs demoed, but not all finished," Kotche says. "Maybe four or five have creeped into the live set." Among them are the tentatively titled "Either Way," which Kotche describes as "a beautiful soul number closer to Bill Withers" and "On and On and On," which is "a gorgeous ballad with a build throughout the whole song."

Kotche says a third new song, "Walken," is "a swamp rocker with total, full-on guitar" that "wouldn't sound of out place on [Wilco's 1995 debut album] 'A.M.'"

Overall, Kotche says the material is "kind of all over the place. We're going to continue demoing to see what shape the record takes. We're not really forcing anything. We're just writing songs that we like and crafting good songs together. We'll see what rises to the top."

Wilco will be back on the road in July and August, including a hometown Aug. 6 appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago. "We're slowing down, but slowing down for Wilco means we'll have one or two months off this year instead of none," Kotche says with a laugh. As previously reported, Kotche is also playing a host of shows in support of his recent Nonesuch solo album, "Mobile."


Asked what he sees as the biggest change in Wilco since he joined in 2001, Kotche says, "Even before that, the precedent was set that no two records were the same. That's the cool thing about Wilco. We make things we like to hear that we're going to want to listen to in 10 or 20 years. I think they were doing that before I joined. Stylistically, it has gone in some different directions. Musically, there are some amazing musicians in the band now, like [guitarist] Nels Cline. We're able to tackle a lot more and a lot more different stuff than Wilco previously had."
